Brendan Coyle

Brendan Coyle (born David Coyle; 2 December 1962/63 in Corby, England) is a British–Irish actor renowned for his versatility on stage and screen.

Early Life and Training

Son of an Irish father and Scottish mother, great-nephew of Manchester United legend Sir Matt Busby. Initially apprenticed in his father’s butcher shop; inspired by teenage exposure to Richard III, he moved to Dublin, trained at his aunt’s theatre, then won a scholarship to Mountview Academy in London in 1983.

Stage Career

Built his reputation in repertory and Irish theatres before breakout role in The Weir, winning the Laurence Olivier Award (1999) and New York Critics’ Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut
